About 20% of Americans average less than 6 hours of sleep per night.
All of us know the importance of a good night’s sleep. But for too many of tonight, sleep will not come easy, nor will it be restful. And for some of this evening, sleep will not come at all. According to The National Sleep Foundation, about 20% of Americans average less than 6 hours of sleep per night.
Sleep is increasingly recognized as important to public health as well. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as insufficient sleep is linked to motor vehicle crashes, industrial disasters, and medical and other occupational errors. Persons experiencing sleep insufficiency are also more likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, and obesity, as well as from cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.
